Robin Hood Returning To BBC America

No idea how old this news is, but it's brand new to us so we thought we'd pass it on. BBC America has finally set a return date for Robin Hood. We've been wondering when they'd get around to it.

The third season of the show aired throughout the spring and early summer in the UK with the last final episode airing June 27th. Word came down just this month that BBC has canceled the show.

The third and final season of Robin Hood debuts Saturday September 12th on BBC America.

Preview: AMC's The Prisoner

While AMC has yet to give us a firm premiere date for their miniseries remake of The Prisoner, they have stepped up with the preview and promotional material. Comic-Con attendees this past weekend were treated to a 9+ minute trailer, a Marvel comic version and first looksies at three new posters.

Preview: Heroes Season 4 Promo

Here we go folks: Welcome to a first look at season 4 of Heroes. Most exciting aspect? The addition of Prison Break's Robert Knepper as an evil Carnie leader. Probably not worth all the hype it's getting? Claire's sapphic college experiences. Glad to see Madeline Zima of Californication and The Nanny as her roommate, though.

We're hoping people start coming back to Heroes. Yeah, it faltered a bit the last two seasons or so, but those who stuck it out know that it was worth it and, hopefully, this next season the show will turn itself around, even if Bryan Fuller did bail.

New Chuck Poster

Somewhere in the crush of Comic-Con madness, NBC revealed a new 70's inspired poster for the next season of Chuck. Enjoy it, Chuck fans, you guys worked your asses off eating Subway footlong subs and hitting the message boards and blogosphere so hard that NBC had no choice to bring the show back for it's third season.

Preview: ABC's Hank

I don't know about anyone else, but the second clip allowed me to breath a tiny sigh of relief. The networks have loaded up the Fall 2009 season with multi-camera sitcoms, figuring in these down times people are looking for comedies. My problem is that 99% of multi-camera sitcoms are pure crap.

I have to admit that I wasn't really expecting much out Hank. I was a big Frasier fan so I've been pretty damn disappointed by Kelsey Grammer's sitcom choices since that series ended. The first clip, the official ABC released one, is...kind of ok. Shows potential but not exactly screaming "awesome show, here, watch us!". Clip two is much funnier, though, so we have some hope.

ABC Sets Return Date For Brothers & Sisters

"Greg! Move ya head."

Yes, Brothers & Sisters fans, you'll be hearing that line again soon. ABC finally set a return date for season four of Brothers & Sisters. The rowdy Walkers will be joining us again with new tales of sibling insanity, love life woes and drama, drama, drama.

Seriously, if drama grew on trees it would be this clan's ever changing family tree. More drama than you can shake an entire family tree at, let alone a stick. So much drama...Well, there's tons of it.

Word is season four's time line takes place a few months after season three's finale left off.

The show's producer, Greg Berlanti, had a rough go of it last season with two of his three shows, Eli Stone and Dirty Sexy Money, both getting the ax from the alphabet network. While Eli Stone has already run it's course, ABC just aired the first of the final three episodes of Dirty Sexy Money this past Saturday evening.

Brothers & Sisters returns Sunday September 27th at 10pm.

Law & Order: SVU Guest Star Update

Ok, L&O nerds, here's a small update to this previous post.

EW's Michael Ausiello broke the news that Eric McCormack will be guest starring in episode two of Law & Order: SVU next season. Chances are you remember McCormack from either his days as gay BFF/roommate on Will & Grace or his one season run as ad-exec on TNT's Trust Me.

As previously posted, Law & Order: SVU exec-producer Neal Baer promised an Emmy winning guest-star via his Twitter feed for episode two and an Oscar winner for episode three. Now that we know the Emmy winnder, who do you think will be the Oscar-vet?

Dollhouse Premiere Pushed Back

Fox has announced that the second season premiere of sci-fi guru Joss Whedon's Dollhouse will be pushed back one week in order to give the show some breathing room in a tight shooting schedule. The original air date, September 18th, will be taken over by a repeat of the Glee pilot.

Dollhouse will return September 25th with an episode written and directed by Whedon, which is sure to get all the sci-fi fans out there pretty excited. Maybe the show's live ratings won't suck for once.

Hilary Duff Coming To The Upper East Side

Ausiello just broke the news that Hilary Duff will be joining the cast of Gossip Girl for multiple episodes next season. While the mention of tween stars tend to elicit eye rolling and groans here at DVR Life headquarters, Duff's guest appearance on Law & Order: SVU last season was...dare we say...surprisingly good. If I recall correctly her character was obscenely annoying and we just wanted to smack some sense into her, which is a pretty good testimonial for Ms. Duff's acting chops.

Her run begins October 5th, the fourth episode of the teen soap's third season, as Olivia Burke, a real life movie star attending NYU. According to Ausiello, she'll be roomies with Vanessa and he's keeping his fingers crossed for some romance between Olivia and Lonely Boy.

Can't wait to hear Gossip Girl's nickname for Olivia. We're also looking forward to some passive and not so passive aggression towards the actress on Blair's part. Surely there'll be jealously flying all over the Upper East Side.

ABC Goes Old School With Castle

I'm not sure if this should be listed under "Hey that was my idea", "Good use of corporate synergy" or "Way to think outside the box."

ABC has announced that they'll be publishing the latest Richard Castle novel. You're pretty familiar with the literary world and you're wondering who's Richard Castle? Well, then you're probably reading the wrong blog. Richard Castle is the fictional best-selling crime novelist and namesake of ABC's cop dramedy Castle. If you missed the series' freshman season last year, here's a pretty good reason to get caught up.

ABC is teaming up with publishing company Hyperion who is owned by Disney, ABC's parent company to publish the first real Richard Castle novel, entitled "Heat Wave", first on the net and then in print. The ABC website will debut the first chapter August 10th and then premiere one new chapter each week for a total of 10 weeks. The full novel will then be published by Hyperion on September 29th.

The novel will be a stand alone tale that relates to the actual TV show. No word on who is actually writing the novel.

And we here at DVR Life would just like to say that we totally thought of this. Well, while watching Castle last season, we actually thought to ourselves how cool it would be if the writers of the show would publish an e-book version of the novels the characters would talk about on the show...You know, just for fun. ABC, of course, has to go all money making style and actually publish a real book, but you know...Maybe Mickey Mouse can read our thoughts or something.

The second season of Castle is set to debut Monday September 21st.

Law & Order: SVU News Roundup

Lot's of news coming out of the Law & Order: Special Victims Unit camp the last few days. First off, what most already know, the show's stars, Christopher Meloni and Mariska Hargitay, will be returning for the 11th season. Apparently negotions were long, tough, and drawn out.

Word was out near a month ago that Stephanie March will returning as ADA Cabot but we've now learned she'll fill the spot only for 10 episodes. Preceeding her run will be a four episode arc by TV-vet Christine Lahti. No word yet on who will fill the remaining nine episodes but TV Guide seems to think they plan on casting a male for the part - a complete departure from the show's usual young hot female ADA's.

For awhile now, Law & Order: Special Victim Unit has been well known for it's guest stars. In the past Cynthia Nixon, Martha Plimpton and Leslie Caron have all won awards for their guest roles while Robin Williams and Marcia Gay Hardon were also nominated. Last season, SVU's tenth, saw guest stars ranging from Ellen Burstyn and Cicely Tyson to Hillary Duff, Luke Perry and Sarah Gilbert...Among many many others.

Word came today that Prison Break's Wentworth Miller will be the first guest star of the year, playing a cop that saves a rape victim. Buddy TV is guessing, and they're probably right, that the character won't be a one-sided good guy cop.

FX Fall Premiere Dates

FX has announced the premiere dates for two of it's returning series this fall and tentative plans for another. To kick off their new season, Shakespeare in leather drama Sons of Anarchy will be returning for it's sophomore season of gang warfare, drugs, biker babes and massive amounts of alcohol. And Henry Rollins.

The biker drama did pretty well in it's first season last year, and deservedly so. Nothing really in the way of awards but ratings where good in the hoped for demographics and critics really dug the show. This season will feature Henry Rollins for at least six of the seasons thirteen episodes. Not sure what the part is, other than he's some sort of threat to the gang. I call pretty good casting here!

In other casting news for the show, Ally Walker will be back as Agent Stahl, a real thorn in the side of Sam Crow and Mitch Pelliggi will be returning as the head of Charming's local white supremecist gang, The Nordics. He'll also be joined by a new supremicist, Adam Arkin. Once again, DVR Life would like to call good casting!

Not returning this season is Drea de Mateo who played Wendy, Jax's former junkie lover and baby mama. DVR Life hasn't had a chance to post this yet, but de Mateo will be making her way to ABC's Desperate Housewives in the 2009 season. So there ya go, we reported it.

Somewhat too-quirky for DVR Life comedy It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia will also be returning and will reportedly have a new partner - another half hour comedy - sharing the 10pm hour.

Finally, Nip/Tuck, the oft-mind blowing, usually disturbing, plastic surgery dramedy will be premiering it's sixth and final season in October. No firm date has been set, though just the return is pretty big news as we weren't expecting it until 2010. Word is the final season will be cut in two and we'll be treated to ten episodes in the 2009/2010 season and then the final nine in 2011. Way to drag it out, FX.

Sons of Anarchy returns Thursday September 8th at 10pm, It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia premieres September 17th.

Update: EW has just announced that FX's Damages will be returning in 2010. No other info yet. If I recall correctly, the previous two seasons premiered in January, so I'll assume things won't be much different for season three. Here's hoping they realize season two was just a bit too vague and confusing, even for people like who tend to like vague and confusing in a good mystery/drama.

Preview: Vampire Diaries

The CW's bloody teen-soap Vampire Diaries is getting some good hype for it's coming fall premiere. With the success of all things vampire these days, I don't imagine much going wrong for all those involved. Around upfronts time the network released a few short clips but there's now an extended clip that's painting a broader (and better) view of the show.

My initial thoughts based on the clip? Early One Tree Hill with fangs. Dueling brothers in a small town, one good, one bad, cute girls, bad soundtrack, high school angst and even crows - they've got it all. And that's not a bad thing.

Also discovered today (via The Televixen), some sexy new ads for the show. The design is very CW, reminiscent of Gossip Girl and One Tree Hill ads from the past.

They are not, however, in the same format as other official CW ads for the 2009 Fall season, so no idea if they're fan work or legit. See what you think:
